The history of the Biological Anthropology Lab USP (LAB)
Since 1998, we are a team of researchers from different areas such as biology, archaeology, bioanthropology, history, social sciences and dentistry, committed to better understand the interactions between genetics, culture and health of ancient peoples through the study of their biological remains (mainly bones, teeth, and dental calculus).
We collaborate with Institutions from all over the world, including Museu Nacional do Rio de Janeiro, Universities of Nebraska (USA), York and Durham (GB) and the Max Planck Institute (Germany). The majority of our projects are financially supported by FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo).
We also are engaged in producing educational material, such as hands-on activities and books for children and adults that present the richness of the bioarchaeological approach through transdisciplinary learning.
